HEALTH AND SAFETY STATEMENT

Springbucks Gymnastics Club is committed to ensuring that those working with children and young people adopt best practice to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the participants, coaches and officials. Any concerns about health and safety issues should be reported directly to Ruth Drysdale-Middleton (Club Health and Safety Officer) on 07885 857240 or by emailing her via the private contact form on the Health and Safety Officer page.

The club will endeavour to promote the highest standards of care for all members, coaches and officials by:

  • Providing the correct qualified coach : pupil ratio (UK Gymnastics Guidelines)
  • Working to session plans or through set badge schemes
  • Risk assessments in place and up to date
  • Equipment kept in good condition and yearly written equipment checks and visual pre-session checks by supervising coach every club session
  • Equipment set up safely and equipment set up checked regularly during sessions by lead session coach
  • Pre-session safety check list to go through each session by supervising coach
  • Club rules / codes of conduct in place and regularly reinforced
  • The adoption of the UK Gymnastics Health & Safety, Safeguarding and other relevant Policies
  • The appointment of a Health and Safety officer to review and update policies / practices as necessary
  • Ensuring that key members of staff are suitably trained and that all staff are aware of Child Protection and Health, Safety and Welfare issues and have read relevant club policies
  • Ensuring that best practice coaching guidelines are followed at all times
  • Ensuring skills are taught safely and progressively and children are only allowed to try moves they are ready to learn
  • Ensuring that a minimum of two responsible adults are present at all training sessions or events where possible. For PE sessions or sessions run in schools with a lone coach arrangements are in place to provide support from school staff in the event of an incident or accident.
  • Ensuring a qualified first aider and first aid kit is present at all club sessions
  • Ensuring reporting procedures are followed for any accidents or incidents
